What is a Domain Name?
A domain name is essentially a signpost on the Internet. Almost every website you've ever been to, and every email you've ever composed, has used a domain name in its address.
People register domain names in order to 'stake a claim' to a particular name -- whether for business or personal reasons. Once you register a domain name, it is entirely yours, no other party may use that identity online as long as you continue to pay the yearly renewal fee and abide by the terms of use.
1 - Choose a domain name that represents your business and the products and services you offer
2 - Domain names can be up to 63 characters, but try to create the shortest domain name that is most recognizable to your audience
3 - Incorporate a popular keyword into your domain name
4 - The easier your domain name is to pronounce, the easier it will be to remember
5 - Dashes work well if you want to create a domain name that is unavailable, i.e. www.your-own-domain.com
6 - Purchase domains that are spelled similar to yours and redirect them to your main domain
7 - Get the whole package for your domain extension: .com, .net, .info, .biz, .org
